LOCAL AUTISTIC MAN LOCATED WITH PROJECT LIFESAVER
HACKENSACK – Tonight Bergen County Sheriff Leo P. McGuire announced the find of a 20 year old man suffering from Autism who had been reported missing earlier in the day.
“As a parent I can say with certainty that when a child goes missing the world stops, leaving you paralyzed by fear. In the case of this young man, given the condition he suffers from, that must be doubly so,” said McGuire. “I would like to commend all of my officers for their outstanding work in helping to ensure that a story that started so terribly had such a happy ending for all involved.”
The 20 year old River Vale man was reported missing to Sheriff’s Operations. Dispatchers there quickly notified the River Vale Police Department and sent several personnel to the man’s last known location to begin the search using the Project Lifesaver location equipment.
The equipment, which is able to home in on the unique signal emitted by a device worn on the enrollee’s body, assisted Sheriff’s Officers in locating the man in his neighborhood. The man was returned to his parents in good condition shortly thereafter.
