About the Bergen County Sheriff's Office
The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office is the largest law enforcement agency in all of Bergen County. The BCSO provides a wide variety of functions for all 70 municipalities in Bergen County and each of its more than 900,000 residents.
The Sheriff’s Office is tasked with administering a vast array of facilities and services. It manages the Bergen County Jail, a 1,200 bed state-of-the-art correctional facility housing both pre-trial and sentenced inmates as well as individuals who have violated US immigration laws as part of an agreement with the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Division of the Department of Homeland Security.
The BCSO is responsible for ensuring the safe operation of the courts at the Bergen County Justice Center, an essential component of the New Jersey judicial system which sees more than 1 million visitors each year. The Crime Scene Unit of the BCSO’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation provides advanced forensic analysis and on-site evidence collection for every law enforcement agency in Bergen County. The BCSO’s Civil Division is responsible for overseeing the sale of all foreclosed properties in the county that, in turn, produces millions of dollars in revenue for the taxpayers.
